Yoga Class Etiquette
While we share the energies in class with all participants, remember that yoga is a very individual practice.
Your experience, movements and postures will vary from the others in the class.
This variation is not only expected, but is encouraged - while any type of competition, even with yourself, is discouraged.
Please scroll down for great tips for a happy yoga class.
PEACE AND RELAXATION
Our yoga studio is a sacred place of healing, relaxation and peace. Conversation during class is minimal as our thoughts are focused inward. Cell phones are turned off.
ARRIVAL
Arrival time is between 5 to 10 minutes prior to class. You are invited to proceed to the studio and enjoy Viparita Karani (Legs Up the Wall Pose)
or Savasana (Relaxation Pose) prior to class.
AFTER CLASS
Any questions or concerns can be addressed at the end of the class. Departure time is between 5 to 10 minutes after class posted time.
LATE ARRIVAL / EARLY DEPARTURE
While late arrivals are discouraged, it does occasionally happen. Please join the class as quietly as possibly. Early departures are also discouraged.
If it is necessary for you to leave prior to the end of class, simply let us know prior to class.
WASHROOM FACILITIES
Facilities are available adjacent to the yoga studio. You are encouraged to utilize the facilities prior to class rather than during class if possible.
FRAGRANCE
Please refrain from using fragrances, including strongly scented fabric softeners, prior to class. On occasion we may use a lavender scent for it's relaxation properties.
Please let us know if this is not pleasing to you.
HEALTH CONCERNS
Any health concerns or limitations should be disclosed when registering for the class. If you have a new concern it should be discussed upon your arrival.
If you have a cold, flu or like ailment, please do not attend class.
YOGA MATS AND PROPS
While there are yoga mats and blankets at the studio, students may wish to bring their own.
SHOES AND OUTERWEAR
Shoes must be removed at the top of the stairs. Coats, outerwear and bags may be left at the entrance way.
ATTENDANCE
If you are unable to attend class please call, text or email me at softyoga.ca@gmail.com prior to class.
ENERGIES
To allow your energies to flow freely we ask that you remove your jewellry (you may wish to make an exception for wedding rings), watch and socks.
Yoga is practised in bare feet.
EATING AND DRINKING
Yoga is practiced on an empty stomach. It takes approximately three hours to digest a meal. If you need to eat prior to class it should be little and light. A healthy body is a hydrated body, however you should refrain from drinking at least half and hour before practice. Small sips of water are acceptable during a more active class or when weather dictates. Be sure to drink sufficient water after class.
CLOTHING
There will be warmer and cooler periods in class. Clothing should neither be too tight nor too loose. A good choice to start would be standard workout tights,
a tank or T shirt and a sweatshirt. Yes, although it is not optimal, you can leave your socks on if your feet are cold.
COMPETITION
While we share the energies in class with all participants, remember that yoga is a very individual practice. Your experience, movements and
postures will vary from the others in the class.
This variation is not only expected, but is encouraged - while any type of competition, even with yourself is discouraged.
